Position Description:(primary functions)
The Head Women’s Volleyball Coach reports to the Athletic Director. Primary responsibilities include the management and development of all aspects of the women’s volleyball program including recruitment, organization of practices, games, scheduling, budgeting, facility and equipment maintenance. Other responsibilities include but not limited to, thorough knowledge of and adherence to the rules and regulations of ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference (MAÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ) and a thorough understanding of the role of athletics in the educational process.
Minimum Requirements:
- At least a bachelor's degree.
- Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of coaching experience.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience in recruiting student-athletes is preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the NJCAA, MAÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ, and ÁñÁ«ÊÓÆµ rules and regulations and adhere to all rules and regulations.
- Recommend to the Athletic Director the sport’s competitive event schedule.
- Supervise all contacts with prospective student athletes by others to avoid violations of recruiting rules and regulations.
- Promote the athletic program and specific sport through community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
- Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative activities for the specific sports program.
- Monitor academic progress and status of team members, implementing action plans through appropriate staff when needed.
- Coordinate housing arrangements for student athletes with the appropriate personnel.
- Assist in the transportation of student athletes to and from medical facilities.
- Manage student athletes’ misconduct appropriately and immediately on and off the court.
- Recruit quality prospective student athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions.
- Demonstrate professionalism at all time through behavior and appearance.
- Responsible for search, selection, and training of qualified assistant coaches in accordance with all college personnel policies.
- Responsible for annually evaluating all coaches and staff under his/her supervision.
- Coordinate team travel needs with the Athletic Director.
- Maintain clean bathrooms, dressing and storage areas.
- Report issues regarding the basketball court and athletic facilities immediately (scoreboard, basketball goals, dressing rooms and etc.)
- Attend professional meetings and workshops.
- Demonstrate a cooperative attitude toward all other sports within the Department of Athletics.
- Complete and submit documents in a timely manner.
- Regularly inspect playing and practice surfaces and equipment to ensure safety.
- Follow proper chain of command.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Athletic Director.
